Our leader Paul Wood joined the ASO in 2006 when he moved to Scotland as the Music Service Manager for East Ayrshire. He started playing the violin at school when he was 8 years old.
Aged 11, Paul knew that he wanted to be a musician and music educator. After graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Paul trained to be a music teacher while continuing to freelance across the UK. Paul has had the pleasure of commissioning and performing several concertos by young composers as well as leading orchestras and performing solo recitals.
Composing and arranging music has always been a passion of Paul’s. His arrangements have been performed by many orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Slovak Chamber Orchestra. As a composer, Paul is the co-author of the Stringtastic series, a collection of pieces for young string players published by Faber.
Currently, Paul is a freelance musician and education consultant helping arts organisations develop music programmes and secure funding.
